Meet ELK

"Each member of the team has been carefully appointed based on merit..."

By far the biggest asset of ELK Salon is the team of dedicated hair professionals who attend to our clients. Each member of the team has been carefully appointed based on the merits of their ability (technical and creative) and their experience in the industry. Let's go meet them:

Ellie Greensmith - Director & Owner

Ellie started her career after graduating from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Fashion Marketing and Communications, by training at the Vidal Sassoon School in London. In time she moved on to develop her practice at a top salon in Chelsea, where she became a more versatile and skilful hair stylist. It was during her time in London that Ellie was able to work on projects such as Wella Professional shows and London Fashion Week.

In 2008 she moved to Exeter for a new experience, with the aim of building a clientele in a more close-knit community. During this time, Ellie worked as a Director Level Stylist for one of Exeter's top hair salons.

In 2012 she established ELK Salon, and finally realised a longstanding personal ambition to create an independent salon that provides clients with personalised hair care and styling treatments.

Hayley Herrington - Senior Stylist

With over 11 years of hairdressing experience, Hayley is a highly valued member of the ELK Salon team.

Hayley started her career working a front of house role at another Exeter based salon. With the encouragement of colleagues she embarked upon professional training at Exeter College. Since then she’s undertaken training throughout her career, including at the prestigious Goldwell Academy in Mayfair (London) and Keune in Amsterdam.

She is very able in all technical aspects of hairdressing (both colouring and cutting), but particularly likes to work closely with clients in creating their look. Hayley is a team player and really enjoys working with stylists at all levels and ability.

Lucie Stoneman – Salon Manager & Senior Stylist

Lucie has over 7 years experience in the hair industry. Like many stylists in our industry, she started as a Saturday girl, and then won an apprenticeship at a highly reputable salon based locally in Exeter.

Lucie has attended courses in barbering, creative cutting and colouring, and has taken part in quite a few hair shows and competitions. She enjoys (and thrives under) the pressure of the stage, which is one of the reasons she especially enjoys handling bridal hair for clients.

ELK Salon is very excited about having Lucie on board – her skills and experience will be a great asset to the salon and our clients.

Beth Hibbert – Stylist

Beth Hibbert has over four years of post-qualified salon experience. During that time she has developed her skills and gained new cutting techniques, which she is able to offer our clients.

Beth admits to enjoying the daily challenges clients present with their choices, and feels that they gain most from her when they give her more creative freedom with cutting and colouring.

We’re please to have Beth join our committed team of stylists, and look forward to encouraging her as she hones her skills and grows her experience.

Rachael Strawford – Chief Reception

Although her role at ELK Salon is at front of house, Rachael is also a trained and skilled hair stylist – we’ve found this benefits our clients the moment they arrive through our door.

Rachael was trained and practiced as a hair stylist for 10 years, working at a number of salons. While she enjoyed the hands-on cutting and styling, Rachael particularly enjoyed the welcoming and servicing of client needs as they come and go from salons. She therefore took the decision to take a step back from the salon floor and move to front of house.

Rachael works on front of house using her knowledge and experience to provide ELK Salon’s clients with a greater level of service and in salon experience.

Sophie Johns - Apprentice

After finishing her GCSEs Sophie joined ELK Salon as part of her 2-year apprenticeship in hairdressing.

Sophie is very passionate about hair and loves practicing all kinds of styles and techniques. It’s this passion that has been a core motivator for her in chasing her dream of becoming a fully qualified hairdresser and stylist.

Since joining ELK Salon, she has demonstrated a strong eagerness to learn and be part of the team – something that ELK values very much. Her main responsibilities at Elk Salon include: assisting the stylists, ensuring the salon is kept clean and tidy, and making sure clients have a comfortable, relaxing experience.

Rosie Cronin - Apprentice

Rosie finished college and took on our apprenticeship role here at Elk Salon. Fast forward to today and she's really enjoying all aspects of her training, especially colouring.

Rosie is thriving towards her level 2 qualification and looking forward to being s fully qualified stylist.

Her main responsibilities at Elk Salon include: Assisting the stylists, ensuring the salon is kept clean and tidy and ensuring clients have a comfortable, relaxing experience.
